Imperial T.I.E. Fighter Part 3 – Star Wars: The Final Trench Battle on the Death Star

The Death Star trench run is one of the most memorable sequences in Star Wars: A New Hope. In my previous posts on Star Wars: The Final Trench Battle on the Death Star and in Part 2, I reviewed my builds on Luke’s X-Wing and Vader’s T.I.E. Fighter from Bandai respectively. Imperial T.I.E. Fighter is the third installment.

And now, I present to you one of the three ships that were involved in that famous scene. The X-Wing, Vader’s Advance T.I.E. Fighter and now, an Imperial T.I.E. Fighter.

As previously stated in my prior posts, I bought the Bandai version of these ships in 1:72 scale and found them easy to assemble and with great detail. One may even say a boring build, but if you’re a fan of the franchise, it wouldn’t matter.

Imperial T.I.E. Fighter

The Imperial TIE fighter in Star Wars: A New Hope is a TIE/LN starfighter manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems. The ship is 6.3 meters long and has a maximum speed of 1,200 km/h. It is equipped with two laser cannons. The ship is piloted by Imperial pilots and designated as TIE/LN. TIE/LN starfighters are launched from racks in the hangar bays of Imperial ships. They are designed to attack in large numbers, overwhelming the enemy craft. Standard attack squadrons consist of 12 fighters while full attack wings are made up of six squadrons.

What’s in the box?

The Bandai TIE fighter 1/72 scale model kit is a plastic model kit that recreates the iconic starship from the Star Wars universe. The kit includes the following items:

  • A detailed cockpit with clear or frame viewport parts
  • A seated pilot figure
  • Laser effect parts
  • A Death Star-themed display base
  • A water-transfer decal and as well as stickers
  • An instruction manual

The kit requires assembly and paint and does not need glue. It is compatible with other display stands from the Bandai Star Wars line. The kit is suitable for ages 15 and up.

As with Darth Vader’s ship in the previous post, I used no base coat for the same reason as before: the No-Rust-is-Left-Behind policy which was strictly enforced in the Imperial Fleet. However, I also avoided using the decals altogether and painted the areas that needed the decals except for any tiny lettering.

Started build on 29DEC21, completed 05JAN22.

The Trench Battle Scene

In this diorama, I created the trench scene with anything I could find. Yes, I know, I could’ve bought the 1:144 scale trench scene, but it was 1:144 scale. So, I took some of my boy’s useless Lego parts and old sprues from previous builds and started the trench. then primed and painted.

I hoped you enjoyed my series on the build of Star Wars: The Final Trench Battle on the Death Star.
