USS Independence LCS-2 Part 3

USS Independence LCS-2

Tragedy continues!

See my previous posts Part 1 and Part 2 on this USS Independence LCS-2 build if you haven’t already.

After I had painted this little beastie, I continued on with putting on the decals. Here are some tips for that:

The following steps are recommended for applying decals to your model:

  1. Paint the areas where the decal will go with gloss varnish or PVA glue to create a smooth surface for the decals to adhere to.
  2. Cut out the decal and soak it in warm water until it slides.
  3. Paint decal solution on the model and slide the decal paper out.
  4. Adjust the decal with a brush and apply more decal solution if needed.
  5. Seal the decals with a clear coat.

Using a decal set is not mandatory, but it can help the decal conform to the surface of the model and prevent air bubbles from forming. Here are some videos that demonstrate the process of applying decals to a model:

  1. How to Apply Decals to a Model
  2. Scale Model Basics: How to apply decals the right way to a scale model

I hope this helps! I still need practice on this part.

As you can see, it too, was a massive failure. I ended up painting some of the lines instead.

I attempted with applying the decals but with my fumble -fingers, I ended up damaging the lines. Yes, I could’ve reprinted some decals on the printer, but I like painting some parts instead of using decals. So painted lines I did. I kept the circle since one of the helos will be sitting on top of it. Every straight line was replaced.

Not Another One?

I tried to do the next decal but favored painting in the lines instead. I wonder why.

Another tragedy!

Call me the antenna breaker, or Abraham, the bane of antenna. This was a bugger to fix, but I got it fixed by being patient and still while holding it in place true and straight as the glue set in. After it set for over 24 hours, (no, I didn’t stay there and held the thing in place for 24 hours) I then cut off the excess and repainted it by brush.

And Finally, the Finished Product.

Completed Trumpeter’s USS Independence LCS-2 1:350 scale!

This build was a somewhat of a simple, and easy one in spite of my tragic clumsiness. This kit contained less flash and photo etch that helps with the appearance of the ship. As for fit, not much of any problem. Just make sure the upper hull and bottom hull is clamped when gluing.

I admire the unique shape which attracted me to the ship other than the name. Unfortunately, my affiliates don’t carry this model. But below I will link you to one which I am not affiliated with.

Started build on 25MAY23, completed 31DEC23.

Please share with like minds and comment below with any anecdote or suggestions. The links I provided throughout the blog which go to Model Cars or Diecast Models Wholesale are affiliates, and I do get a commission off qualified sales, that is how one can support a fellow modeler like me. Thank you!
